Nasri H Barakat
ARIAS-US certified arbitrator/umpire
Mr. Barakat is currently president of II&RCS, Inc., International Consultants. He is a seasoned arbitrator and mediator. He has participated in excess of one hundred insurance and reinsurance disputes in various capacities including Chairman, party appointed, neutral, sole arbitrator, expert witness or mediator.
The arbitrations varied in size from $100,000 to in excess of $150 million. They involved issues including, but not limited to: summary judgment, rescission due to misrepresentations and mishandling of claims, asbestos and environmental liability, pollution, bad faith and extra-contractual obligations, allocations, underwriting and claims disputes, financial risk underwriting, professional liability, builders risks, aggregate allocations disputes, number of occurrences and other general commercial property and casualty disputes.
In addition, Mr. Barakat handled disputes involving international cargo shipping of commercial cargo including high valued items. He also was involved in several mediations, which involved large corporations and foreign governments.
Biographical Information
Mr. Barakat commenced his practice as a full time arbitrator and mediator in 1994 when he founded II&RCS, Inc. in prior years Mr. Barakat held executive positions with several insurance and reinsurance companies including president, National American Insurance Company, Vice president, Old American Insurance Services, assistant Vice president, Republic Insurance Company and assistant vice president, the Hartford Fire International Insurance company.
Mr. Barakat’s insurance and reinsurance experience encompasses the United States, Europe and the Middle-East.
As an executive of insurance and or reinsurance companies, he was responsible for ceded and assumed reinsurance audits, commutations, liquidations, and arbitration and litigation management, underwriting and marketing commercial excess and surplus lines, ceded reinsurance, and specialty Lines programs.
Mr. Barakat’s list of clients and contacts include Lloyd Underwriting Syndicates, insurance and reinsurance companies, large Fortune 500 companies and foreign governments.
During the years 1997 to 2006, he was directly involved in other international business areas including, but not limited to: estate management, banking, family and business trusts, real estate, litigation support and management to public relations and asset recovery and collections.
During this period he worked diligently with international law firms, bankers, real estate agents, notary publics and estate administrators. He successfully assisted clients in the recovery and collections of assets to the liquidation of those assets and their distribution to the rightful owners. This endeavor involved several continents and a large number of countries, jurisdictions and nations.
Mr. Barakat is a member of several professional organizations including ARIAS-US, AIDA (Association Internationale des Droits des Assurances), Reinsurance Association of America; American Bar Association. He is also listed on the American Arbitration Associations’ Roster of Neutrals for both the domestic and international panels (ICRD). Mr. Barakat is also listed as arbitrator on the United States Council for International Business’s web site (USCIB).
Mr. Barakat is a graduate of the Lebanese University of Beirut. Law School.
He is fluent in French and Arabic. He is a United States citizen and resides in New York City.
