ASP Real Ale Evening Cavell Rendezvous 8th June 2004 - 2004-06-10

After a hard day's work at the Cavell Conference when the temperature soared well into the eighties and after the well attended PWC Cocktail Party, what better way than to relax in the evening and enjoy a glass or two of Real Ale, as well as providing an excellent marketing opportunity for the ASP Members? Judging by the attendance hosts and guests thought it was the best thing too!

On Tues 8th June ASP hosted its first Real Ale Event at St. Andrew's Tavern, Norwich. It was a balmy (not to be confused with barmy) evening and even those like myself who were not experienced ale drinkers soon realised the benefits of this liquid refreshment on such a night.

Over 65 people, hosts and guests, filled the Tavern and soon caught on that the tickets handed out to them on arrival, were not to be left lying around as they could be turned into refreshing pints of Honey Dew, local Adnams Ale, or any of the dozen or so Guest Ales to be found at the Tavern. The only problem to complete the exchange was actually getting a place at the bar, which as the evening progressed seemed to get more difficult, I am not sure if was due to the number of people or my actual competence to walk reasonably straight and focus, although the excellent buffet provided by the Tavern helped to offset the effects of the Ale.

Word had obviously got around during the day as we had some Conference gate- crashers who had realised that following the Cocktail Party, this was the "best venue" in the City on Tuesday night.

We did have an "official" photographer to record the happy scene, however the quality of the photos produced were suspect to say the least. I am not sure if this was due to the effect of the ale on the photographer or whether the camera was dropped into a pint, either way we are seriously considering whether to ask this particular person to attend future ASP functions again in an official capacity.

Judging by the comments received on the actual evening and the feedback over the following days, there are already plans afoot for an even bigger and better event next year so watch this space!

Many thanks to PWC for "releasing" their Cocktail guests to attend the evening. Thanks also to Suzanne our ASP Secretary, for all her behind the scenes work to co-ordinate things and a special thank you to Graham for ultimately making it all possible.

See you next year.

p.s.

anyone got any left over tickets as I am in Norwich again the end of July?
